About unicorn blood I,II,III,IV. Series of four paintings. People. Refugees. Repetition of history. Homesickness. Misunderstanding. Pain.

About Unicorn Blood consists of three layers. Like late medieval paintings, all parts of a story are shown simultaneously. The middle layer, a portrait, is visually caught between the history and the foreground. The front layer is an extract from conversation with the person portrayed, because ultimately what a person does and thinks must come first.

One hundred years ago, Russia also repelled its own people. Just after the 1917 revolution, political opponents were faced with a choice: Forget Russia and move to another country or die. This parallel forms the background of each painting.

I. The Philosophical Ship. A ship full of writers, artists and philosophers who were expelled from Russia, 1922.

II. Political opponents waiting in lines for trains and ships to leave Russia, not all could escape, 1922.

III. Arriving in new countries. Now they are refugees, still afraid, but they have to settle in this new place,1922.

IV. Homes of people who had to flee their countries, now and then. 2022/1922.
