In this project, we aim to examine how genuine political intentions and responsibilities in Russia have historically been eroded and replaced by fanciful notions of righteousness and justice. These ideas have been constructed and perpetuated by those whose power remains unchallenged by society. To describe this state, we use the metaphor of sleep and a sleepy kingdom, where the possibility of conscious choice is absent, and an invisible authoritative force sweeps its residents into an unpredictable whirlpool of hallucinatory visions.
The buzzing stream of disinformation machinery, which includes propaganda, fakes, digital and real violence and cruelty, and a lack of empathy, constitutes what we call a space of uncontrollable hallucination or sleep. Sleep generators—comprising power, propaganda, institutions, including the arts, as well as various mechanisms of punishment, intimidation, and persuasion—program and reprogram consciousness, sending it into a mode of apathetic helplessness and confidence in the only correct view of events. These devices, like the poisoned spindle that plunges Sleeping Beauty deeper into eternal sleep, preserve her in perpetual subjugation to power.
