First in the Subsequent Series 'Searching for Home' after the forced departure from Russia in 2022.
This work, titled "New Home," marks the beginning of the series exploring the theme of displacement and the search for belonging. The artwork reflects my experience of moving away from Russia and the anxieties surrounding the concept of a new home.
The piece depicts "new homes" in their infancy—barely formed and simplistic. The artwork conveys a sense of apprehension that these nascent structures might remain rudimentary forever. There is a lingering fear of loss and questioning whether it's worth investing in more complex constructions when the future remains uncertain. This fear underscores the struggle to create something meaningful and enduring in the face of displacement and change.
