The project "Inversion" by photographer and activist Danila Tkachenko presents an artistic intervention in the context of affluent European cities. The artist sought to shed light on what has become background noise for many—that, right here in Europe, heavy battles continue daily, cities are being destroyed, and people are losing their loved ones.

For his project, Danila selected 12 images from war correspondents documenting the armed conflict and placed them against the backdrop of some of Europe's most visited tourist landmarks, such as the Louvre, Milan's Duomo, Prague’s Charles Bridge, and Pisa’s Leaning Tower. These iconic settings contrast sharply with the war-torn Ukrainian cities depicted in the images. In the foreground of each piece, are figures of Ukrainian refugees, who have found sanctuary in these European cities. Their presence adds a deeply human dimension to the stark contrast of the background, evoking a poignant awareness of the fragility of human life and the vulnerability of well-being.

The project has been made possible with the support of the nonprofit organisation Garivo.
